I originally was thinking to write a persuasive article convincing people to plant a tree. But when I read the words below I realize there is nothing that I can say that is more convincing.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Any Muslim who plants a tree, then whatever is eaten from it is sadaqah (charity) on his behalf; what is stolen from it is also sadaqah; what animals eat from it is also sadaqah;what birds eat from it is also sadaqah; whosoever takes anything from the tree, it is sadaqah(for the one who has planted the tree).”
(Sahih Bukhari Vol. 8, Book 73, Number 41)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:”If the Hour is about to be established and one of you was holding a palm tree shoot, let him take advantage of even one second before the Hour is established to plant it.”
(Reported by Ahmad and Al-Bukhan on the authority of Anas in Al Adab Al-Mufrad, see also Sahih Al- Jami’ Al-Saghir, Number 1424)

Why are we not planting trees?

I am growing a few other trees as well including an Avocado tree.
Growing a tree is simple. Get a seed and plant it in soil and water it. Keeping it alive until maturity is somewhat more difficult but with a little research and effort it is achievable. Search on the Internet for the tree you want to grow and read a few different resources for your particular tree.
Experience is the best teacher. Try to grow a tree and learn from mistakes. Turn problems into solutions. If you have questions about growing any tree, ask me and I will try to help inshAllah.

This is great. I’d like to think that planting a few trees in your life may be the deed that gets you to Paradise. Not to mention they are beautiful and provide shade for you. Any trees you suggest for Northeast USA?
There are literally so many possibilities it is difficult to answer this question. When thinking about which trees to plant in your region you must consider the climatic factors. Visit some local orchards and find something you like. Always found out what grows well locally.
For the Northeast USA some varieties of Apple trees, Peach trees, Chestnut trees come to mind immediately.
Try experimenting by planting seeds from produce you purchase instead of just throwing the seed away. Sometimes they may grow.
