As you may be aware, we’ve recently begun a major project in Kuantan, Pahang on the east coast of Malaysia. Among the features being installed for the project is a super-charged composting system. Composting is probably a term that you may have heard but you may not know exactly what it is. To put it simply, it is a focused process of creating soil.
“Soil is just dirt” you say? Please, don’t be unimpressed.
Soil is essential to life for humans.
Soil is the essence of plant nutrition and hence the platform for the nutrition of humanity.
Soil is critical, soil is complicated and soil is beautiful.
If you don’t already know this, then watch this film:
And if you already know how amazing soil is, then what are you waiting for? Become part of the process of helping to restore the Earth, which is happening and needs to happen more.
There is a lot of exciting potential for this project and among the features that have already begun is the composting setup which was put into place by none other than Paul Taylor.
Paul Taylor has an extensive background in soil science, composting setups and rehabilitation of degraded lands.
He was raised on an organic farm in the 60’s and 70’s near New York City, in the 70’s Organic Farming became “all the rage” in North America and in many parts of the world, and there were very few people who actually had much organic farming experience. In 1972, at the age of 24, Paul bought his first farm in Tennessee, a cheap, worn out, old tobacco farm and restored it to productive health in less than 3 years using techniques and knowledge learned from his grandfather and the general skills learned while growing up on the farm.
That was all before he became an expert in soil creation and composting techniques. Paul has literally traveled the world teaching people in places as diverse as the Middle East, India, Christmas Island, Nauru, U.S.A., N.Z. and even Outer Mongolia.

This isn’t the typical backyard composting, it is a full-blown setup including bio-digesters to create bio-gas, ways to create compost tea, ways to create natural fertilizer, and the ability to make bone meal among other things.
The system is a professional commercial-scale setup that can be scaled up or down. The concepts and technology can be appreciated and replicated at home or in large commercial enterprises.
We will be holding a 3-day practical course focused exclusively on composting. The course will be held May 28th until May 30th. Participants will get hands on training in all aspects of composting and natural fertilizer creation. This course will provide a solid start to get the art and science of composting right from the beginning.
The course will be taught by Salah Hammad who will demonstrate and explain exactly how to implement and use the setup at Taman Pertanian Kuantan. More importantly, the course will provide the understanding of the concepts so that one can create their own setup and innovate and tailor for their own needs.
More details about the course can be found here.
