Why the PDC?

While we have advanced technologically and continue expanding the boundaries of knowledge, we do sometimes forget the simplest of things – the basic laws of nature which govern the earth and make all the things possible in the first place.

This course was developed to bring our attention back to the basic interconnections between all things living and non-living.

The patterns that exist in nature have a lot to teach us, and while we become experts in a specific niche, we still need to understand the bigger “earthly” picture and be able to connect the dots.

The Permaculture course is for Design. Appropriate design for better and meaningful human lives.

Its application is comprehensive as well. Be it sustainable architecture, designing a housing community or even designing a career, the Permaculture methodology helps us design the system with the given resources around in a sustainable manner. And yes, it can also be used to design food systems!

By joining this course, you get to tune out from the daily routine and get new insights within the class and connect with other participants and others in the worldwide Permaculture community.

Some students just use their newly gained knowledge to better understand and improve whatever they have already been doing. Others have a life changing experience!

The Course Details

The Permaculture Design Certificate Course (PDC in short), is a 72-hour certificate course, which is taught around the world following the founder’s (Bill Mollison) guidelines.

Generally the course is taught as an intensive 2-week period course – but understanding the challenges of getting that much time off from other commitments, a weekend version is also famous in many places.

The course will run for 6 weekends from 31st March 2018 until 6th May 2018.

Instructors

 

Muneeb Bin Yousuf

Muneeb started his journey in Permaculture after joining an Introduction to Permaculture course in 2011 and completed the Permaculture Design Certificate Course (PDC) with Mustafa Fatih Bakir right after in 2012.

Also being part of an eco-village development team, he gained various experiences related to landscape planning, livestock management and community development.

Joining Murujan thereafter as the Programs and Events Director, Trainer and Design Consultant , he has since helped organize various PDCs around Malaysia and joined in to teach the sessions from time to time. He has also worked with and was part of the team organizing the transition of Taman Pertanian Kuantan (TPSAS) towards a more sustainable future.

Formally educated as an Engineer (Mechatronics), he has also done his MBA (Strategic Management) and has worked with various organizations over the years. He is also currently with the management team behind Dynametrx Digital – a digital marketing company.

As a consultant and trainer, Muneeb focuses on alternative economic systems and community development and using appropriate technologies to develop sustainable systems.

Ashaari Rahmat

 

 

Wan Muhammad Ridwan

Wan Muhammad Ridhwan completed our program at Zaytuna Farm under the tutelage of both Geoff and Nadia Lawton. He graduated as Chemical Engineer and spent 10 years in Oil and Gas production and operations with experiences in offshore engineering projects, financial budgeting, joint venture and people management before jumping full on into permaculture in 2014 after a PDC with PRI Co-Director, Rhamis Kent.

Whilst at Zaytuna Farm, he managed cattle, poultry, nursery, cropping and food forest systems setup, operations and maintenance. He also worked on irrigation, farm piping networks, mechanical works, earthworking and PDC co-teaching.

He gained his International Project Management Certificate and valuable experience managing Zaytuna Farm and working together with Geoff Lawton on Consultancies, Designs and Implementation. He had the honour of learning from many others who are leading the way in their field, like Paul Taylor, Graham Bell and David Spicer.

He has now taught his first PDC courses with Geoff and now other courses. Intro course and Tropics masterclass at the PRI Malaysia site.

Location – Urban Hijau

Urban Hijau is a planned sustainable social enterprise, using permaculture as a means to unite people, generate profit and preserve the planet simultaneously.

Urban Hijau is more than just a simple garden, it is an attempt to be a real-life showcase of sustainability in the middle of the city. Located in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), this social enterprise manages a unique half-acre acre site that produces organic fruits and vegetables for the wider community while educating them about the practices of permaculture.

This is how part of the land at Urban Hijau looked like right in the beginning.

Even though the farm does look beautiful, we have been constantly adding various elements to the farm to eventually make it into a sustainable model urban site as an inspiration for others to follow.
